My name is Sammy and I'm a two month old Jack Russell puppy. I was recently injured and I'm now undergoing surgery and various treatments.
I am lovingly being cared for by my friends at the Palos Verdes Village Pet Clinic.
I will be letting all my friends watch my progress, so stop by frequently as I post my updates.
Send me messages and write me. It's times like these when you need your friends.
I love you!

Day 18 (Posted on: 10/3/2008)
The graft looks like it's taking. He still has minimal use in his back leg, the tail wags and puppy kisses haven't stopped though!

Grafting Day (Posted on: 9/18/2008)
Today is Day 16 and this is the day everyone has been waiting for. We are taking little Sammy in for surgery today to do a skin graft on his exposed leg. We have prepared him as much as we can for surgery. He will need a lot of care after the skin graft in order for everything to heal properly.

One step at a time (Posted on: 9/18/2008)
Day 14: Well, the updates are becoming slower because during the last few days there has not been anything new. I am still helping Sammy with his bandage changes. What a great attitude he has. He just wants to be a puppy again. We are getting him stronger and stronger to sustain the surgery. More to come soon.

Happy (Posted on: 9/6/2008)
I am so happy on how Sammy has been doing. The Doc says that he has been doing tremendously well! We are anxiously waiting to see what will be his next step. I know that Doc is trying to build up his system to get him to a point that he can get his surgery done. Way to go Sammy! He loves his chicken!

Day 10 (Posted on: 9/6/2008)
Well, it is hard to tell that anything is wrong for this little Sammy. We continued with his bandage changes. This is day 10 and he is still making tremendous strides. We are now in the process of preparing him for his next step, the SKIN GRAFT! We are praying for his rapid recovery. Way to go Sammy!

Continued (Posted on: 9/6/2008)
Well, Sammy has ben healing very well. I was doing his bandage change today and he was doing very well here on day 8th. His wounds were doing well and the Doc said that he is he was healing very rapidly. His wounds looked very well and was eating well and most of the damaged tissue was gone and headed for recovery. He still has minimal use of his injured leg. But you can not tell that this is his case. His spirit is still tremendous and he does not know that he still has a long road of recovery. The Doc says that he still has to go through a few surgeries to help regain function of his leg. We are still hoping that he will regain function of his leg. He still has a uphill battle!

Bandage Changes (Posted on: 8/26/2008)
Day 6: Today Sammy has been doing great. I have been letting him walk around and get some exercise. He is still having problems with his left leg. The swelling is still present but getting better. He has become a little feisty and has started barking. We changed his bandages and cleaned his wounds. There was still areas of bad tissue that Dr. Fuchino removed. He is really starting to show his terrier characteristics. I can not believe what a fighter he is. He keeps on getting better. He got an enema today because he was not pooping very well over the last few days. Stay tuned to "A PLAN FOR SAM"

What's next? (Posted on: 8/26/2008)
Day 5: Sammy has become brighter and brighter each day. He is so happy to see me everyday that I arrive.I am also so happy to see him. Today we changed his bandages and took off more bad tissue. Dr. Fuchino also closed with stitches some of the other wounds. He is making such great strides day to day. I am really trying to feed him well to get his weight up. He has such a cute face and I can tell that he smiles when we help him every hour of the day. Today there was talk that he will need skin grafts. Dr. Fuchino is preparing Sammy for this next step. Lets all hope that everything goes smoothly in his recovery.

The New Day (Posted on: 8/26/2008)
Day 4: Well, what can I say. Sammy started to walk today. He was walking on three legs but will put down his bad leg at times. His left leg is still quite swollen and the leg is not fully functional. But what a trooper! He takes a few steps and needs to sit. We changed his bandages today and more bad tissue needed to be removed. During the whole time he was trying to give me kisses. Do you think he really knows we are trying to help him? What a great puppy!

Turning the Corner? (Posted on: 8/26/2008)
Well, I came to work this morning hoping that I would see a change in Sammy's condition. I was trying to convince myself that he would be fine but I knew deep down that he was still in critical shape. But, to my amazement, I saw him and I heard some thumping on the side of his pen. I was amazed! The thumping sound was from his tail wagging and hitting the side of the pen. He was raising his head! What a relief I had to see this. Soon after we started with his daily treatments. We unbandaged his hind end and noticed that more skin needed to be removed. But, I think that this is a good thing from what I understand. He seemed to be very comfortable. He has been on pain medication to control his discomfort. And, what a surprise, he started to eat some chicken! Not just chicken but rotisserie chicken. He ate it very well and seemed to improve as the day went on. What a great day for Sammy! Hope the next few days will be just as great.

The fluid of life (Posted on: 8/26/2008)
Day 2 for Sammy was a tough one. He was very lethargic and would not eat. He was on IV fluids which was trying to help him. His blood was retested and he was in dire need of a transfusion. He was given a transfusion and his bandages were changed throughout the day. The dead tissue was removed during each bandage change. Even though he was looking very weak and debilitated, he managed to give me kisses. He really has a inner vitality that is powerful! I have been worrying about him constantly and hope he will turn the corner soon. Stay tuned for more

A PLAN FOR SAM (Posted on: 8/22/2008)
Hi! I'm Char and I will be helping Sammy with his updates since he has trouble writing right now. Sammy is a 2 month old jack russell puppy. I work at Palos Verdes Village Pet Clinic and spend a lot of time with Sammy (feeding, cleaning, medicating, tlc, etc.) Sammy came to the clinic a few days after he was injured the results of the incident left sammy's hind quarters almost completely skinless, with minimal movement of his rear legs, he was immensly depressed, no desire to eat anything, and getting weaker by the hour. Sammy reached us with just a ray of hope. His blood results were looking grave. As soon as he arrived Dr. Stacy Fuchino had a plan for Sam. Watching this helpless organism fight for his life inspired me to closely document, alongside with Dr. Stacy Fuchino, Sammy's battle to just be the normal tail wagging puppy he deserves to be. "GET WELL SOON SAM!" **STAY POSTED FOR UPDATES**
